     Introduction of National Cancer Institute

      National Cancer Institute is the leading hospital specializing in cancer control of the whole country, which was established on the basis of Indochina Radium Institute, the most long-standing unit for cancer control in the region (since 1923). National Cancer Institute has traditional thickness and experiences in cancer research and prevention.

Being assigned by the Ministry of Health, the Hospital is responsible to:
      1. Providing high-quality services in diagnosis and treatment of tumours in order to fulfill the demand of people in the whole country.

      2. Providing consultancy for the Ministry of Health in building up guidelines and policies on cancer control.

      3. Technically guiding cancer control activities in the country:  

  • Participating in building and developing the nationwide network of cancer control.

  • Providing technical support in diagnosis, treatment, prevention, early detection and epidemiologic research of cancers in provinces and regions.

      4. Training medical staff:

  • Coordinating with medical universities in training staff special for oncologist of preliminary, primary and secondary special action, masters and PhDs of oncology.

  • Participating in training staff of lower heath service and cancer control levels in diagnosis, treatment, prevention and palliative care in the whole country.  

      5. Scientific research:

  • Applying new accomplishments cancer research, updated, modern knowledge and experiences in cancer control from others countries to practice of Vietnam.

  • Carrying out epidemiological investigation of cancer situation in Vietnam, identifying causal factors, especially for country specific and common cancers of Vietnam.

  • Identifying country specific  screening methods for most common cancers in Vietnam.

  • Developing treatment guidelines for common cancers.

      6. Cancer prevention:

  • Setting up programmes for cancer health education.

  • Collaborating with mass media in providing the public with information on cancer control.

  • Carrying out audience analysis to identify the most effective means of communication in cancer health education.

      7. International cooperation:

      Develop international cooperation with international organizations, non-governmental organizations and individuals in cancer researches and utilize the foreign assistances in equipment supplying and staff training.

      The Hospital has a team of experienced professional staffs who have been trained at famous domestic and foreign research institutes and universities. The total number of regular staffs of Hospital is 518, including 02 assistant professors; 07 doctors; 20 masters; 148 doctors (of which 28 specialists at Level I and Level II); 6 pharmacists; 27 bachelors for other sectors; 158 medical technicians and assistant doctors.

      The Hospital has the most modern system of machinery and equipments for diagnosis and treatment of cancer in the whole country, especially dominating in histological diagnosis - the most important diagnostic method in cancer treatment and has sufficient facilities and equipment for setting up multi-pattern treatment protocol for almost all types of cancers.
